Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco is American Canadian singer and songwriter. She has more than twenty albums. DiFranco's music is classified as folk and alternative rock. They also are influenced by jazz hip hop punk as well as rock and roll. Ani DiFranco, who is widely known as an icon of women's rights and Grammy-winning performer, is regarded as to be the first pioneer of DIY music. It was one of the first musicians to launch their own labels in 1990. DiFranco was born on September 23, 1970 in the city of Buffalo, New York. She is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), who met Dante Americo DiFranco while studying at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father is of Italian descent and her mother was born in Montreal. Ani DiFranco wrote and sang 32 Flavors. The track was first released in 1995 on the sixth studio album Not a Pretty Girl. The song appeared on the soundtrack of the Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate, released in 1999. In 2013, DiFranco apologized for her actions after the news that she would be hosting a three-day workshop in a former Louisiana slavery plantation. The workshop was cancelled, however, she did not express any regret. DiFranco issued a further apology just a few days later. While she's been referred to in the past as the Little Folksinger her songs have embraced a variety of genres and collaborators ranging across the spectrum from Pete Seeger to Chuck D to Prince. She lives in New Orleans. Ani diFranco along with Kristen Ford are together. The singer began writing songs around the age of 14. They were performed in bars and in coffee shops all through her teens. DiFranco was a graduate aged sixteen from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts High School, began to attend classes at Buffalo State College. Ani's new baritone was made by custom Alvarez guitar, designed by Chrys Johnston who at that time was the Alvarez artist rep. The guitar is equipped with their System 600 preamp and has all solid woods--a cedar top mahogany back and sides, and an ebony fretboard. The house she lives in is in New Orleans with her husband along with her two children, and Lefty the long-legged pup who moves in and out of our view during conversations.
