Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco (born Angela Maria Ani DiFranco) is a American and Canadian artist and singer. Over 20 albums have been released by her. The music of DiFranco has been described as folk and alternative rock but also has elements of punk, funk, hip hop and jazz. Ani Difranco is recognized as an icon of feminist music. In 1990, she was among the first to establish her own independent record label. DiFranco is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), and Dante Americo DiFranco. They met at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Both her parents were both of Montreal descent. Her song 32 Flavors, was composed by her and sung by Ani. This track is on her sixth studio album Not a Pretty Girl released in 1995. Another version of the song is featured on the film soundtrack for the 1999 Canadian romance film Better Than Chocolate. DiFranco issued an apology in 2013 after it emerged that she had scheduled a three-day conference in an Louisiana plantation. Many (including us) weren't moved by her cancellation.
